2018 Gemma Camaryn Chardonnay
2018 Gemma Camaryn Chardonnay
Tasting notes:
Ripe, caramelized tropical and stone fruits, crème brulee and raw honey. Swirling brings up more heady ripe stone fruits. This is by far the most forward of the three with toasted pie crust intermingled with orange marmalade and peach preserves and a hint of citrus zest. It still has vibrant acidity and a lifted finish but it has more early approachability than the other “girls”.
The Fourth vintage of the “Gemma Camaryn” aged in the same Tonnellerie Ô barrels from the Allogny forest. 2018 was warm year producing very rich wines with a tremendous amount of material. The wines have plenty of acid to age well but have more sheer opulence than any vintage to date.
"The Girls" are made with NO pressing, it takes two tons to yield one barrel, there is no inoculation on either primary and secondary fermentation with no nutrient additions, minimal use of SO2 and the use of an OXO rolling system for lees incorporation instead of stirring. As a result of this extremely reductive winemaking to protect these wines, they actually NEED air to open.
