“New Work” by Kim Nemeth

  • 202 E. Main Street Walla Walla, WA 99362 (map)

Studio Two Zero Two Resident artist Kim Nemeth is announcing her new show, “New Work” with an opening reception on June 14th at Studio Two Zero Two in downtown Walla Walla. The reception is 5:00pm to 7:00pm, with an additional “Meet the Artist” event on Saturday the 19th from noon to 4pm. The art show will run through July.

For 12 years Kim has been perfecting her craft in Walla Walla creating wearable items, gifts, and wall hangings. Working from an antique floor loom, her weavings are a precise craft, involving each individual thread being aligned into perfect placement sometime using 5 miles of yarn to create one piece of art.

An Ohio native, Kim Nemeth came to Walla Walla in 2001 as an AmeriCorps volunteer with the desire to work in rural communities. Her first position was with the Kirman House Museum restoring and curating local art and stories. Working alongside local master weavers, she helped develop a Textile Center to showcase local fiber artists and the process of spinning, dying, and weaving. Shortly after, Kim purchased her first loom and began the steady process of teaching herself how to warp a loom and weave.

Kim calls Walla Walla home and creates her craft in her home studio. “My weaving practice is an exploration in lines and layers” states Kim. “Embracing the technical challenges of floor looms, I work across scales, from postage stamp-sized weavings to large wall hangings”.
